Sensory Awareness

This program focuses on reconnecting to the senses. Living in our fast-paced society makes it challenging to stay present and fully utilize all our senses. We learn about our world through our senses of sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste.  Unfortunately, many of us are preoccupied with what is going on in the brain to stop and fully witness what is happening around us by using our senses. 

If you've ever heard the saying, "Stop and smell the roses," you know that taking a moment to reflect on what you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste is extremely beneficial for our overall health and wellness. Without taking the time to be present, we risk missing out on half of our lives. Mindfulness helps to strengthen our connection with our senses and enrich our lives.

Roots2Mindfulness utilizes a variety of age-appropriate activities to encourage the strengthening of the senses. Programming is available both for inside and outside exploration, weather depending.


Body Awareness

This program focuses on attending to body sensations through the use of body scans, progressive relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and sitting meditations. Children will be guided through various exercises to increase the mind-body connection and deepen their understanding of what their body is telling them. Age-appropriate tools and exercises will be utilized.

Reconnecting to the Breath

This program focuses on placing attention on the breath.  Children learn about and practice a variety of breathing exercises, utilizing a hands-on approach with mindfulness tools. Learning how to breathe properly can help children be better equipped in dealing with challenging situations. The breath is one of the most important mindfulness tools that a child can develop because it is always with them - no need for external tools to become present and calm. Tools are used to aid in strengthening the connection to the breath but are not required for ongoing use. Age-appropriate tools and breathing exercises will be utilized.  


My Mindful Brain

This program focuses on understanding the connection between mindfulness and how the brain works. Children will learn about the parts of the brain that are involved in regulating emotions and practice strategies that help promote positive self-regulation choices. Having a better understanding of how the brain works can help children identify when they are reacting rather than responding to situations.  Age-appropriate lessons and tools will be utilized.
